THE NHẬP ĐẠO COURTYARD AND ĐẠI TRUNG GATE

Passing through the main gate of Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám, visitors enter the first courtyard known as the Nhập Đạo Courtyard (Courtyard of Entrance to the Way). This area features lush greenery, well-kept lawns, and two ponds located symmetrically on either side.

A central pathway paved with red bricks leads to the Đại Trung Gate (Great Middle Gate), which serves as the entrance to the second courtyard. On either side of the main path are two smaller gates whose names symbolize intellectual and moral excellence: Thành Đức Gate (Gate of Accomplished Virtue) and Đạt Tài Gate (Gate of Attained Talent).

The Đại Trung Gate reflects the architectural style of the Later Lê Dynasty (15th–17th centuries). The structure is made of wood and consists of three bays. Its roof is covered with traditional curved tiles, while the ridge is decorated with two carp facing a precious vase, crafted from colorful ceramic and porcelain fragments. The floor is paved with Bát Tràng bricks, and the gate stands on a raised brick platform bordered with stone, accessed by three steps, creating an atmosphere of dignity and grandeur.
