On the afternoon of October 6, 2026, First Lady of Viet Nam Ngô Phương Ly, spouse of General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm, and First Lady of Panama Maricel Cohen de Mulino, spouse of the President of Panama, participated in a cultural programme highlighting the heritage of Viet Nam’s ethnic minority communities at Văn Lake, within the Special National Monument of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám. The two First Ladies were welcomed by Mr Phạm Tuấn Long, Director of the Hà Nội Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

In the cultural setting of Văn Lake, First Lady Ngô Phương Ly shared with the First Lady of Panama insights into the diversity of traditional attire, weaving, embroidery, indigo dyeing and techniques for creating traditional patterns among Viet Nam’s ethnic communities. Through the handcrafted products, stories of the daily lives, customs and cultural identities of communities such as the Tà Ôi, Red Dao and Green Hmong were brought to life in an engaging and accessible way.

The two First Ladies also met and interacted with artisans who actively preserve and pass down traditional craft skills. The artisans’ skilful craftsmanship, together with the distinctive colours and intricate patterns of their creations, offered the First Lady of Panama a deeper appreciation of the richness and refinement of Viet Nam’s ethnic cultures.

The programme not only provided an opportunity to introduce Viet Nam’s distinctive cultural heritage to international guests but also highlighted the role of Văn Lake, within the Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám heritage complex, as a space for cultural exchange and connection, where cultural heritage is presented, shared and continues to resonate in contemporary life
