Asean city leaders visit Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám heritage site

Within the framework of the ASEAN City Leaders Conference 2026, on the morning of June 9, the delegation of conference participants visited and conducted a field survey at the Special National Heritage Site of Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám.

The program was attended by leaders from numerous localities across the ASEAN region, including Luang Prabang, Vientiane (Laos); Siem Reap, Preah Sihanouk (Cambodia); Yangon, Mandalay (Myanmar); Bangkok (Thailand); Dili, Baucau - Manufahi (Timor-Leste); Sumedang (Indonesia); along with representatives from international research organizations, embassies of ASEAN member states in Vietnam, and leaders of several Vietnamese provinces and cities.

During their tour of Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám, the delegates explored iconic spaces closely tied to Vietnamese history and culture, including the Khu Nhập Đạo, Khuê Văn Các — a symbol of the capital Hà Nội — and the Doctoral Stele Garden, where 82 doctoral steles are preserved, bearing the names of doctors who passed the royal examinations under Vietnam's monarchical dynasties. The 82 doctoral steles were inscribed by UNESCO as a World Documentary Heritage in 2011 and recognized by the Vietnamese State as National Treasures in 2015.

The delegation also visited the exhibition space dedicated to Quốc Tử Giám — Vietnam's first national university — explored the Khu Thái Học area, and listened to stories about the renowned teacher Chu Văn An. Through this experience, the delegates had the opportunity to gain a deeper appreciation of Vietnam's longstanding tradition of reverence for learning, respect for teachers, and esteem for talented individuals — values that have been preserved and nurtured across many generations.

With its outstanding historical, cultural, and educational values, Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám continues to affirm its position as a must-visit destination for international delegations coming to Hà Nội, contributing to the promotion of the image of the thousand-year-old capital city to friends across the region and around the world.

The ASEAN City Leaders Conference takes place from June 7 to 10 in Hà Nội, bringing together leaders of cities and localities from across the ASEAN region, along with experts and international research organizations.
