EXPERIENCE BEING A STUDENT IN THE PAST AT VĂN MIẾU – QUỐC TỬ GIÁM
Recently, fifth-grade students from Alpha Primary School – Alpha Educational System (Hanoi) had the opportunity to explore the classrooms of the past and have interesting experiences as students during a field trip, immersing themselves in the heritage theme of "Ancient Classrooms."
To learn about the classrooms of the past, the students first engaged in a mind-stimulating game. Based on the names of ancient study tools listed on a survey sheet, their task was to observe and mark the items they found. Completing the investigation sheet was also the moment when they discovered the answers to their own questions before the experiential session: What were the study tools of students in the past?
Through the game, students independently discovered fascinating facts: Classrooms in the past were often set up in the teacher's compound, with no desks and chairs for students like today but rather wooden boards or woven bamboo mats arranged next to each other for students to study or practice writing. The ancient study tools included feather pens, Chinese ink, and more. This allowed the students to compare the similarities and differences between classrooms of the past and present.
In the experiential part of becoming students of the past, students had the opportunity to learn how to grind Chinese ink and write with feather pens on do paper. To grind the ink, students needed concentration; the hand should not press too hard on the ink stick but also not too lightly. This process helped them develop patience and precision.
Phan Anh, a student from class 5A2, said: "Today, we had truly interesting and meaningful experiences about an ancient classroom. I really enjoyed grinding ink and writing with a feather pen on do paper."
