THE HEAD OF THE UNESCO WORLD MEMORY PROGRAM, DR. FACKSON BANDA, IS INTERESTED IN THE HISTORY OF THE EDUCATION AND EXAMINATION SYSTEM OF VIỆT NAM
On the afternoon of July 5, 2023, Dr. Fackson Banda, the head of the UNESCO World Memory Program, visited the special national landmark of Văn MIếu – Quốc Tử Giám.
Walking under the shade of ancient trees, mid-day in July, Dr. Fackson Banda expressed that this was his first visit to Văn Miếu, and that he was greatly impressed by the cool green space and the ancient architectural buildings there.
In the area of the Doctor's Stelae, Dr. Fackson Banda was introduced to the 82 Doctor's Steles, a documentary heritage officially included in the UNESCO World Memory List, as recommended by the International Advisory Committee of the World Memory Committee. In 1992, UNESCO launched the World Memory Program to prevent the risk of invaluable human heritage materials from being forgotten, and to encourage countries to better preserve and promote the value of these heritages, worldwide.
Dr. Fackson Banda showed special interest when listening to the introduction to the history of education and the ancient selection process for talented individuals in Vietnam. He expressed that such a selection method through the examination system was very serious, and that this method was the only way talented individuals could be chosen for the nation.
