Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám welcomed Vietnamese overseas students from France to visit and jointed the heritage experience education . They were very interested in the tradition of studiousness and their forefathers’ education, so they chose the heritage education programe " Classroom in the olden days".
The students live with their families in the French Republic. On the occasion of their visit to their homeland, they wished to learn about the history, culture and studious traditions of the Vietnamese nation. Participating in the heritage education " Classroom in the olden days", they learned about their ancestors’ the Confucian education, the way of studying and exams in the feudal period and the nation's tradition of respecting for the teachers.
One of the interesting things for them was the experience of sharpening ink, using a brush and learning to write ancient Chinese characters. These activities helped them to know about a type of ink used by students in old times; what material the ink is made of, what color the ink is and compare with the ink they use today. They practiced sharpening the ink in the right way, and they learned that the ancient masters tought their students that it is perseverance, keeping the mind calm.
The experience of learning to use a brush and write with a brush was also very interesting activity. The children learned how to hold the brush to write, slowly put the brush. This actitity tought them to be perseverant and careful.
