KLF Hanoi Preschool Students Experience “Old Classroom” at Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám
On the morning of March 19, 2025, the young students of KLF Hanoi Preschool had the opportunity to visit and experience the heritage education program with the theme “Old Classroom” at the special national relic Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám. The program was designed to suit preschool children, helping them engage with traditional culture naturally and lively.
During the program, the children were immersed in the atmosphere of an old classroom, experiencing a student's life by practicing grinding ink, holding a brush, and writing basic characters on Dó paper. By the end of the program, each child had created their own piece of art. Many students could write their names; some wrote the characters Tài (talent) and Nhật (sun) in Chinese characters on Dó paper.
Sharing his excitement, Nguyễn Anh Đức, a senior preschool student, proudly said: “I can now write two characters. One is Anh Đức, my name, and the other is Tài, which means talent.”
After the experience, Ms. Phung Thi Thanh Bình, Principal of KLF Hanoi Preschool, further explained: “Every year, our students visit the heritage site to learn about the 'Old Classroom.' This significant experiential program has brought great value to teachers and students. The children enjoy the program because they participate in fun activities and become Confucian students. Through this, teachers and students gain a deeper understanding of the tradition of respecting teachers and valuing talent in our nation. Moreover, teachers also gain valuable experience and creative ideas for their teaching methods.”
The heritage education program with the theme “Old Classroom” is an exciting opportunity for students to learn about the traditional, simple classroom, which only had a wooden bench or a bamboo mat, where the teacher sat to give lessons, and the students sat on mats, listening attentively. By using brushes, ink stones, ink, and Dó paper, the children not only experience the diligent study spirit of our ancestors but also develop a greater appreciation for our national cultural values.
