“LEARN ABOUT THE SCHOLARS’ BOOKS - THE HERITAGE EDUCATION PROGRAM ATTRACTING THE STUDENTS AT VĂN MIẾU - QUỐC TỬ GIÁM”
At the end of the school year, the students and their headteacher of grade 8A from Trần Phú High School in Thanh Hóa who paid a visit to study at Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám. Especially, the students were fascinated with the heritage education program with the theme of “Learn about the scholars’ books” at the relic.
Through the theme “Learn about the scholars’ books” with the ancient books and wooden printing blocks displayed at the relic, the students could discover interesting things: Which books were used by scholars in the past? Which character used to be written in books in the past? Which paper was used? Who was the founder of wooden printing works in Vietnam? What subject did scholars study in the past?
Moreover, the students could use Dó paper to make themselves beautiful books with traditional skills from the past.
The student Lê Bảo Minh was impressed with the activity and shared: “Today, this is the very first time for me to visit Văn Miếu-Quốc Tử Giám. Through the program, we could learn about the Sino character, and make the ancient book. The most interesting activity is making a book and then sewing a piece of paper to make a string to tie the spine. I wish to come back the relic”.
The students, their teachers, and parents left the heritage education program feeling inspired and with a deeper appreciation for their cultural heritage.
Ms. Nguyễn Thị Lan Anh shared that: “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the board of management of the relic for organizing such a significant and engaging program. The activities, particularly the offering to the Sages and Saints and the creation of the visitor's book, were truly impressive and added greatly to the overall experience.”
Ms. Nguyễn Thị Nga pressed that: “The program truly brought Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, a symbol of Vietnamese education, to life. Through the activities, I gained a deeper appreciation for the country's rich educational traditions. The heritage education program there offered a variety of engaging activities for students. I particularly enjoyed making my own traditional craft, which helped me connect with the history in a unique way. The program also encouraged us to search for information through surveys, deepening my appreciation for Vietnam's rich educational traditions. Overall, the Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám heritage education program was a fantastic learning experience, making history come alive in a fun and interactive way.”
