OPENING OF THE EXHIBITION “VĂN MIẾU – QUỐC TỬ GIÁM, A CULTURAL SPACE OF MILLENNIAL KNOWLEDGE” IN ĐÀ NẴNG
On the afternoon of August 28, 2025, at the Đà Nẵng Museum, the Centre for Cultural and Scientific Activities of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, in collaboration with the Đà Nẵng Museum, solemnly held the opening ceremony of the exhibition “Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, a Cultural Space of Millennial Knowledge”. The event is part of a series of activities marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (1945–2025).
In attendance at the opening ceremony were: Mrs. Phạm Thị Thảo Nguyên – Deputy Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee of the Đà Nẵng Municipal Party Committee; Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Thu Hiền – Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Đà Nẵng City; Mr. Bùi Văn Tiếng – Chairman of the Đà Nẵng Historical Science Association; Mr. Huỳnh Đình Quốc Thiện – Director of the Đà Nẵng Museum; Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tú – Deputy Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, together with leaders and representatives of the Đà Nẵng Youth Union, the Department of Education and Training, local museums, and schools in Đà Nẵng.
With nearly 100 photographs, paintings, artefacts, and precious documents, the exhibition presents a comprehensive introduction to Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, the first university of Vietnam – a place that preserves the traditions of learning, respect for teachers, and the spirit of lifelong study.
The exhibition content is divided into three main sections:
1. Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám through the flow of history: Featuring major milestones, especially the 82 Doctoral Steles – a UNESCO-recognised World Documentary Heritage.
2. Architectural and landscape highlights: Showcasing images and documents of the Khuê Văn Pavilion, Thiên Quang Well, the Thái Học area, and more – embodying the essence of architectural art and Confucian thought.
3. Promoting heritage values in the new era: Presenting diplomatic activities, heritage education programs, night tours, international conferences, and creative cultural products associated with Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám.
Visitors to the exhibition can also take part in a series of interactive activities: the iPad game *“Discover the Sacred Animals”*, woodblock printing of sacred animals, traditional dó paper bookbinding, and printing ancient Chinese characters and decorative patterns from the Doctoral Steles.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tú – Deputy Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám emphasized: “This exhibition not only helps the public in Central Vietnam, especially the people of Đà Nẵng City, gain a deeper understanding of our nation’s invaluable heritage, but it also serves as a meaningful activity to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, reaffirming the tradition of valuing learning and talent – a firm foundation for the country’s development today.”
The exhibition will remain open until September 14, 2025, at the Đà Nẵng Museum. It offers the public and visitors an opportunity to explore, experience, and feel the connection between the heritage of Thăng Long – Hà Nội and contemporary culture along the Hàn River.
Dr. Nguyễn Văn Tú – Deputy Director of the Centre for Cultural and Scientific Activities of Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám delivered the opening speech at the exhibition.
