PORTRAIT OF KING LÝ NHÂN TÔNG THROUGH THE PROLEGOMENON TO THE TRADITION OF EDUCATION IN VIETNAM " EXHIBITION "
Recognizing the importance and contributions of knowledge to the country's development, in 1075, King Lý Nhân Tông decreed the opening of the "Minh Kinh Bac Hoc" examination to select talents. This examination admitted 10 candidates, with Mr. Lê Văn Thịnh achieving the highest score. The Complete Annals of Đại Việt recorded, "In the spring of the second month, the decree was issued to select candidates for the Minh Kinh Bac Hoc and the Confucian examinations. Lê Văn Thịnh was selected to serve in the royal court."
Subsequently, in 1076, the king established the Quốc Tử Giám, stating, "In 1076, Quốc Tử Giám was established as the first university, selecting officials and scholars who were literate to serve Quốc Tử Giám."
With the establishment of Quốc Tử Giám, the first national school in Vietnam, King Lý Nhân Tông laid the foundation for the development of Confucianism in Vietnam. He initiated the civil service examination system, valued talents, and contributed to the construction of the country's culture.
Currently, the exhibition "Initiating the Path of Education" is being held at the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam relic site, recounting the lives and careers, as well as the contributions of three kings and teacher Chu Văn An, including King Lý Nhân Tông, the outstanding monarch of the Ly dynasty.
