THE EXHIBITION ON THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES TITILED: “THE COURT TO CELEBRATE TẾT

Welcoming the new year 2021, on January 28, 2021, at the Special National Landmark Văn Miếu-Quốc Tử Giám, National Archives Center I (State Records And Archives Management Department of VietNam) in collaboration with the Center for Scientific and Cultural Activities Văn Miếu-Quốc Tử Giám organized the opening ceremony of the exhibition "The Court to celebrate Tết ".

For the first time, 80 typical archives about the Lunar New Year’s activities in the royal court have been selected from the Nguyễn Dynasty’s Recordss - World Documentary Heritage and introduced to the public. The exhibition will be on 3 themes:

Theme 1: The rituals to prepare for Tết including Ban Sóc, Hợp hưởng, Phong ấn, Nghênh xuân and Tiễn xuân.

Theme 2: Year-End - saying goodbye to the old year, welcoming the new year, took place on the 30th day of the last month. During the day,  rituals were held with the aim of getting rid of all the bad things of the old year and welcoming the good things of the new year.

Theme 3: Blessings welcoming, Rewarding and Dutifulness enhancing. On New Year's Day, the king personally went to his mother's palace to chair the New Year celebration. After the celebration, the king stayed at the Thaí Hòa palace, where the court officials would submit their New-year-wishing petitions to the king. After that, the king gave a banquet, rewarded members of royal families and mandarins, and issued a royal proclamation.

The exhibition partly shows us the royal Tết of the Nguyễn Dynasty and the connection between the royal Tết and the Tết of normal people.

The exhibition will take place from January 28, 2021 to February 23, 2021 at Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám.
