WORKSHOP LACQUER SPRING YEAR OF THE SNAKE 2025

From February 14 to February 21, 2025, in the exhibition space Dấu Xưa Văn Hiến 3 "Thiên Quang" at the Thái Học House, Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám Monument, the "Lacquer Spring Year Of The Snake 2025" workshop will take place, guided by two artists, Phạm Hà and Phan Minh Bạch.

Lacquer art is a painting technique and a valuable cultural heritage of Vietnam, born from the creativity and craftsmanship of many generations of artisans and artists. Through each layer of lacquer and every delicate stroke, lacquer art reflects not only the beauty of aesthetics but also carries the depth of history and culture, representing the pride of traditional Vietnamese art.

The "Lacquer Spring Year Of The Snake 2025" workshop is the second workshop organized as part of the Dấu Xưa Văn Hiến 3 "Thiên Quang" exhibition. These activities aim to connect the artists of the Dấu Xưa Văn Hiến group and provide an opportunity for visitors to interact with them at Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám. Visitors will experience two characteristic techniques in the traditional lacquer art process: egg-shell inlay and gold-leaf application.

Artist Phạm Hà shares: "The egg-shell inlay technique in lacquer art involves meticulously attaching broken eggshell pieces onto the lacquer surface, creating unique patterns. The gold-leaf application is the sprinkling of gold into the gaps between the eggshell pieces to enhance the lighting effect and add depth and vibrancy to the artwork." Under the guidance of the two artists and the unique traditional materials, the workshop offers visitors a fascinating experience when visiting the exhibition.

The lacquer workshop at Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám holds special significance, as this heritage space was once the center of education and the training ground for the nation's talent. In the heart of this historical site, which preserves the essence of Vietnamese knowledge, the workshop helps the public gain a deeper understanding of lacquer art and inspires creativity, connecting the younger generation with traditional values. This is also an opportunity for lacquer art to spread, continuing the cultural flow and bringing Vietnam’s heritage closer to the domestic and international public.
