AT THE VĂN MIẾU – QUỐC TỬ GIÁM HISTORICAL SITE

As part of the momentous 70th anniversary of the Capital's Liberation Day (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), a significant milestone in Hanoi's history, on the afternoon of October 8, the Organizing Committee of the "Bùi Xuân Phái – For the Love of Hanoi" Award, co-hosted by Sport and Culture newspaper, Ashui Vietnam Corporation, and Minh Long Wood Group Corporation, held the announcement and award ceremony for the 17th edition of the awards in 2024, recognizing both organizations and individuals in various categories.

For this 17th edition, from an initial shortlist of 54 candidates, the jury selected nine official nominees in 4 diverse award categories: Grand Prize, Work Prize, Idea Prize, and Job Prize, reflecting the broad spectrum of contributions to Hanoi's culture and heritage. Ultimately, four winners were announced. The most prestigious award, the "Grand Prize – For the Love of Hanoi," was presented to Professor, Doctor, and Architect Hoàng Đạo Kính, who continued his family's cherished tradition and dedicated himself to the preservation and promotion of Hanoi's cultural values. Known as the "knight" of architectural heritage, he is the son of writer Hoàng Đạo Thúy, who authored many notable works on Hanoi's culture, including the classic book "People and Scenery of Hanoi."

In addition to the Grand Prize, the Organizing Committee awarded three other prizes across three categories:

  • The "Work Prize – For the Love of Hanoi" was given to Đào Thị Diến's book "Hanoi in Modern Times – From Concession to City (1873-1945)," published by Hanoi Publishing House and Nhã Nam.
  • The "Job Prize—For the Love of Hanoi" was awarded to "Promoting Hanoi Tourism through the Music Video 'Going Home'" by saxophonist Kenny G, produced by Nhân Dân newspaper and IB Group Vietnam.
  • The "Idea Prize—For the Love of Hanoi" went to the "Project to Renovate and Beautify the Space and Landscape around Thiền Quang Lake and Its Surroundings," which was researched and developed by the People's Committee of Hai Bà Trưng District in 2023.

This year's jury, a panel of esteemed figures such as poet Bằng Việt, former Chairman of the Hanoi Association of Literature and Arts (Chairman of the Jury); historian Dương Trung Quốc,Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Historical Association; journalist Hồ Quang Lợi, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Digital Communications Association; and journalist Lê Xuân Thành, Editor-in-Chief of Sport and Culture newspaper, played a crucial role in selecting the winners. Additionally, this year, the jury welcomed a new member, Associate Professor Doctor Bùi Hoài Sơn, a Permanent Member of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Education.

The "Bùi Xuân Phái – For the Love of Hanoi" award was established in 2008 by Sport and Culture newspaper (Vietnam News Agency) and the family of the late painter Bùi Xuân Phái. The award aims to honor authors, works, ideas, and significant scientific and artistic contributions that deeply reflect a love for Hanoi. Over 16 previous editions, more than 150 authors, works, ideas, and initiatives have been recognized as official nominees, with nearly 70 awards being presented, including 15 Grand Prizes.
