CALLIGRAPHY ON LEAF-SHAPED PAPERS
“Lê Lợi vi quân, Nguyễn Trãi vi thần- if Lê Lợi becomes the King, Nguyễn Trãi becomes the King's subject” are calligraphy words written on leaf-shaped papers by members of the calligraphy clubs on October 8. The calligraphy-writing performance is part of a series of activities in the Calligraphy Exhibition and Festival “Thăng Long-Hà Nội” at Văn Miếu-Quốc Tử Giám.
Long time ago, Nguyễn Trãi offered a suggestion concerning leaves on which 8 words would be written. The ink used to write words was made from molasses; those 8 words were " Lê Lợi vi quân, Nguyễn Trãi vi thần ". Ants would eat these sweet words, so words came out. When the leaves fell, they are washed away along river. When people saw the leaves with words, they thought that was an omen of heaven. As a result, everyone supported Lê Lợi in the battles he fought. "The calligraphy-writing performance helps to revive the heroic spirit of the Lam Sơn uprising led by Lê Lợi to fight against the Ming invaders”, said Mr. Nguyễn Tuấn Anh (Thanh Xuân district, Hanoi).
The Calligraphy Exhibition and Festival “Thăng Long-Hà Nội” runs until October 10, 2020. By 9:00 am on October 9, Hương Nam calligraphy club will share their two documents about “Vietnamese women in the old time”. In addition, calligraphy clubs will participate in a quiz about poems.
